James Ferrie (Early 1800's-tbc)
James Ferrie,
was born in Ireland and married Mary Coll.
Their daughter Susan Ferrie Coll (1841-1921) married John Docherty (1840-1921)
on the 24th November 1861 in Donegal. Both of these individuals who later moved to Dumbarton
are described in this site.
Nohing more is currently known regarding James or Mary's life at this point. Initial searches through Scottish
Statutory records suggest that they did not follow her daughter to Scotland.
The Ferrie name was first found in Lanarkshire, possibly before the Norman Conquest in 1066. A family seat was held at
Rutherglen from ancient times. Common spelling variations include Fairie, Fairrie, Farie, Ferry, and Ferrie.
An ancient poem indeed states "nae man can tell, nae man has seen, when the Faries Haena in Ruglen been".
The Ferrie name has also become well known in the US due to David Ferrie who features heavily
in the Oliver Stone film JFK, and was played by Joe Pesci.
Ferrie was certainly a highly unusual and suspect individual, even if he was not, directly involved in JFK's assassination.
David Ferrie was born in Ohio which
evidenced a huge influx of Irish immigrants during the early 19th century and Ferrie's ancestry through his father and
grandfather was certainly Irish immigrant.
Ferrie's claims during his lifetime that he never knew Oswald would appear to lack credibility given the emergence of a
photograph of Ferrie and Oswald together at a specialist military training camp in 1955. Various parties further claimed
strong associations between the 2 men.
Ferrie's demise in February 22, 1967 is also shrouded in mystery and led District Attorney Jim Garrison
who is famous for his investigations into the Kennedy assassination to say,
"I suppose it could just be a weird coincidence that on the night
Ferrie penned two suicide notes, he died of natural causes".
