Charles Baptiste (1881-1963)

Charles Baptiste , son of Charles Tobias Baptiste (1851-1918) and Jemima Young Baptiste (1860-1945) was born in 1881 in Renfrew.

Charles Jnr married Catherine Mclellan on the 17th September 1929 at the age of 48. Catherine was considerably younger aged only 24 years. At this time, the couple were living at 6 Clark Street and 14 Clark Street Renfrew respectively. The ceremony at 19 Howard Street Glasgow was witnessed by a William McLearie of Hamilton Cresent Renfrew and Margaret McLellan. The address at Howard Steeet is now occupied by a supermarket but a propery Valuation Roll from 1914 (noted below) indicates that the marriage took place at a Registry Office.

Charles worked as a mining engineer although we do not know whether this was at likely locations such as Babcock's in Renfrew or nearby in Govan. Charles died at the age of 83 in 1963 in Renfrew.
