Sarah Kerr (1895-1975)

Sarah Kerr , daughter of James Kerr (1874-1922) and Mary McKelvie Kerr (1875-1940) was born in 1895 in Renfrew.

Sarah married a 19 year old Samuel Lavery on the 21st April 1916 at Tennant Street in Renfrew. The marriage certificate lists Samuel's occupation as an Iron Driller. Sarah was noted as a Steam Loom Weaver and and the ceremony was witnessed by Robert Porter and Maggie Whiteford Kerr who themselves would marry the following year on the 28th December 1917.

Sarah who was generally known as Sadie, later obtained a Divorce from Samuel and then married her cousin Hugh Porter on 8th June 1929 in Glasgow - Hugh had been married previously to a Margaret McCluskey and curiously a Sarah Kerr, according to information obtained from his later death certificate. Sarah and Hugh were to live together at 2341 Dumbarton Road in Glasgow until Hugh's death in 1952.

Sarah died aged 81 years in 1975 in Renfrew.
