Mary Clelland Donald Hart (1890-1935)

Mary Clelland Donald Hart , daughter of James Donald (1850-1929) and Sarah Douglas Donald Devine (1865-1952), was born on the 29th April 1890 with her place of birth recorded as 6 Mason Street Glasgow. This street was named after a John Rankene who acquired the site in 1598 and was a mason by trade. Mason street has however long disappeared from Glasgow's landscape having fallen victim to redevelopments in the early 20th century.

Mary married George Russell Hart on the 16th July 1909. At this time Mary was living with her parents in Hamilton where the ceremony, witnessed by John Hart, was conducted.

Mary and George were later to live with their 3 sons and daughter at 16 King Street Paisley. We know from records regarding the Paisley Poet Robert Mutrie who was born in King Street in 1832, that King Street originally housed handloom weavers.

The "Clelland" in Mary's name derived from her grandmother on her mother Sarah's side - Mary Clelland Douglas (1837-1910). This name was also passed down to the modern Hart generation - Donald Clelland Hart although the precise origins were only discovered though the research associated with this family site.

Mary was sadly to die early from meningitis at the age of 46, predeceasing both her husband George and her mother Sarah.
