John Hart (1851-1921)
John Hart
,
son of Malcolm Hart (1826-1907) and Elizabeth Cherry Hart (1824-1869),
was born in 1851 in Paisley.
John lived at 5 Canal Street Paisley and was married to
Annie Knox Russell (1851-tbc) on 31st December 1874 in the Low Parish at 2 St Mirren Street Paisley.
The witnesses to the ceremony were John McLay and Margaret Boyd - no further details are known regarding
these individuals however.
John's occupation was a Carter which involved carrying goods by wagon, often in connection with
Railway's. His wife Annie was a threadmill worker.
By the time John and Annie were married from Canal Street, the adjacent Paisley Canal which had been formally opened on 31st October 1810, was
nearing the end of it's life. In 1881, an Act of Parliament closed the canal and development began on the
Paisley Canal Railway Line.
By the time of John's death on 3rd June 1921, his profession was noted as an engineer's labourer.
John's wife Annie had already passed away by this time although details of her death
are not apparent under the name of Hart or Russell. Somewhat curiously, searches to this effect identified
that a Jeanie Hart Russell, who married a Carter named William Russell and was also the daughter of a Carter
named Robert Hart, died aged 50 in 1898.
John's death from heart disease in 1921 was recorded by his son Malcolm which noted that John
was by this time residing at 5 Orchard Street Paisley. Malcolm gave his address as 4 Gladstone Terrace Paisley.
