Hugh Hunter Senior (1824-1901)

Hugh Hunter Senior, son of Alexander Hunter (tbc) and Susan Caldwell Hunter (1793-1875) was born on the 31st January 1824. His parents were living at North Croft Street in Paisley at the time. Hugh Hunter (Senior) is the great grandfather (x3) of the site author Kevin Hart.

Hugh married twice in his life. His first wife was Ann McConnachie who died at a young age. Hugh remarried to Agnes Rintoul on the 16th August 1861 aged 36 years. Agnes was somewhat younger, being aged 27 years. They were both living at Hill Steet in Glasgow at this time. It appears that of their parents, only Hugh's mother Susan was still living by this time.

Hugh worked as a bricklayer during his life with Agnes recorded as an embroiderer. We know from the birth records for their son Hugh who was born in 1873, that Hugh and Agnes moved back to live in Paisley. Hugh and Agnes also had another son Peter.

Hugh was to live a comparatively long life, finally passing away on the 29th June 1901 at the age of 78 while living at 14 Glen Street in Paisley. His wife Agnes lived until 1903, passing away aged 63 due to a tumour of the abdomen. The Informant for Hugh's death was noted as his son Peter who was living at 38 Townhead Stevenston at the time.
